Packers Come Back To Tie Game | Vikings Rivalry Has New Chapter

The Packers and Vikings rivalry dates back to 1960 and with all the down to the wire games they have played over the course of the last 53 years, it had to happen eventually. They played to a tie, 26-26 to be exact. It was just the second tie in the history of this rivalry. The other tie was a 10-10 game back in 1978, during the Packers “dark years.” With that said, here is what we liked and did not like about this game.

What We Liked - A few weeks ago we said that we didn’t think Matt Flynn should sign with the Packers. We would like to take a moment to retract that statement. We forgot for a moment that Matt Flynn has a track record with the Packers two best offensive players minus Aaron Rodgers- wide receivers James Jones and Jordy Nelson. Flynn not only understands what Mike McCarthy wants done on offense, but he knows where those two want the ball, and that showed late in this game. Of course, Jordy Nelson would catch the ball if it was thrown to the other side of the field to another receiver. Nelson might have the best set of hands in the league.

Speaking of the wide receivers, we liked how they stepped up to the plate for Matt Flynn in the second half. All three of them, Jordy Nelson, James Jones, and Jarrett Boykin started making plays in the fourth quarter and in overtime. We also liked how Eddie Lacy ran the ball today. Lacy showed up for the first time since the Monday Night game against the Bears. Lacy finished the day with 25 carries for 110 yards and a touchdown. Had he not been knocked out of the game, the Packers may have gone for it on 4^th and goal at the one yard line on the first possession of overtime. We also liked how the defense stepped up in the fourth quarter and gave Matt Flynn a chance to make this miracle comeback happen. We liked the play of Clay Matthews. Clay got back to his old tricks and sacked Christian Ponder several times.

What We Didn’t Like - We want to know where the defense was the rest of the game and in overtime. In fact, we would like to know where the defense has been for the last month. Of course, this defense wasn’t built to be on the field for long stretches. They can’t play that way without Rodgers, so they are scrambling to adjust in his absence. We also didn’t like the play calling once the Packers got inside the red zone on the last possession of the fourth quarter and the first possession of overtime. We believe the Packers blew two chances to win the game on those two drives.

As of right now, the Packers are a banged up and beat up football team. Brad Jones, Clay Matthews, Nick Perry, James Jones, and Randall Cobb are all, at the moment, sitting on the sidelines with injuries. This leads me to question number one.

Who will play on Sunday? Well, let’s start with who we know will not play. We know that Clay Matthews, Nick Perry, and Randall Cobb will not play. What about Brad Jones and James Jones though? If either plays neither of them will be at 100%. Simply put, other plays, such as Jamari Lattimore, who played in the place of Brad Jones last Sunday and play rather well, need to step up to plate. With the injuries to Cobb and James Jones, Jarrett Boykin needs to step up and show us all why the coaches all seem to like him so much.

Can the running game continue to build momentum? The Packers are 1 yard from having a 100 yards rusher in four straight weeks. All of a sudden, the running game and the offensive line are the strengths of this team at the moment? How did that happen? Regardless, McCarthy needs to continue to rely on this newfound dominant running game.

Will Aaron Rodgers start playing better this week? Rodgers has not played well at all recently. His overall numbers are down, and he is missing open pass catchers that he would never miss. Rodgers needs to get it going soon or the Packers will be in big trouble.

Overall, despite the injuries, and despite poor play from Rodgers, I still expect the Packers to win this game, but not by as much as I thought they would in the preseason. Final Score 31-20.

Packer's Team Building

Not bowling but, clay pigeon shooting for a team building experience. Mike McCarthy called off the mini camp practice yesterday to do a little team bonding. I think that is an awesome idea to get a bunch of grown men together to do. Perhaps Green Bay Packers left guard T.J. Lang said it best when he tweeted: “Well nobody got shot today. #success” This got me to thinking maybe Ticket King should do a little team bonding and do some paint-balling?

Mike McCarthy 4th in Ranking

Not much news on the home front for the Pack. Today I found a poll conducted by ESPN ranking the NFL top 10 coaches. McCarthy finished #4. Bill the hooded Belicheick was ranked #1. I would consider the #4 spot for McCarthy a fair ranking. Some other tidbits sounds like the lonely Bears are trying to get Cullen Jenkins one the CBA is done. Ticket King Green Bay hopes that the Brewers can build on the last two wins and string together a few more wins.  

In Mike we Trust|Josh Groban at Resch Center

Mike McCarthy finally gets a new contract that was long over due in my opinion. The deal will lock him up through the 2015 season at roughly $5 million a season. “I love Green Bay,” McCarthy said at the NFL scouting combine a week ago. “I’m going to live here (after coaching).” McCarthy's record as the Packers coach including playoffs is 53-34 which is roughly a 60% winning percentage and is 5-2 in the playoffs which is 71%, not to shabby. I'm really happy for him, he dealt with a lot with the whole Brett Favre deal, and this Super Bowl and contract are vindication. My Experience at the Georgia Dome

My overall experience at the Georgia Dome gets a 8 out of 10. Stadium gets a 9 of 10 for view of game, fans get a 7 out of 10(a little quite at times and tried to heckle me  and the people I was with.) Food at the dome gets a 7 out of 10. The nachos I had were awesome and had a TON of cheese. Negative they didn't have any brats, and the concourse was super small. The Packers should have won the game but you can't fault the effort they gave. Also almost forgot the tailgating seen down there is pretty weak compared to Green Bay, all tho they did hand out lotto tickets when we got into the game and they dropped parachutes down from the rafters with a t-shirt with that. There was a lot of cheese heads at the game which was no big surprise to me due to how the Packer fans travel. Also that last drive the Packers had going 90 plus yards to get the touchdown was one for the ages that wont get talked about because the Packers lost.

Had the Green Bay Packers won Sunday's game at the Georgia Dome, we would still be discussing the absolutely epic drive that pulled them into a tie with the Atlanta Falcons in the final minutes of the fourth quarter. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers masterfully guided the Packers downfield, earning the highest praise imaginable from his coach. He bought himself seven seconds on the final play before firing toward receiver Jordy Nelson in the end zone.

"I have never seen a quarterback in my time here play to that level in the passing game," said coach Mike McCarthy, who employed Brett Favre for his first two seasons in Green Bay.

The drive was soon rendered moot by Atlanta place-kicker Matt Bryant's 47-yard field goal. But while we have a break in the action this week, let's take a moment to relive each play and record it for posterity. 

Punting Competition in Packerland

The Green Bay Packers have two new punters on their roster going into training camp this year. Neither one has NFL game day experience but coach McCarthy believes they both have more talent than the punters in the past. Tim Masthay was an All-SEC punter at Kentucky and spent time with Indianapolis last year during the preseason. Chris Bryan is a 28-year-old rookie attempting to learn the American game after spending five seasons playing Australian football. I sure hope one of them is better than Jeremy Kapinos last year.
Also now with American Idol coming down to the final Five, Green Bay Ticket King is lucky enough to have two idol past contestants preforming in Green Bay. Chris Daughtry is at the Resch Center May 21, and Kris Allen is at the Meyer Theatre June 6Th. We have tickets to both shows.

Packers Back in the Desert for Playoffs

The Green Bay Packers head back to Arizona to take on the Cardinals for a 3rd time, but this time there is a lot more at stake. The Packers have beaten the Cardinals two other times this season, once during the pre- season and last week while the Cardinals rested many starters for the Playoffs. The Packers enter the playoffs as one of the hottest teams in the NFL winning seven of their last eight games, but the Cardinals will be no easy task. "Playoff football is different than regular-season football," McCarthy said. "Anybody that's been through it will tell you that. It goes to a different level. "We're playing an opponent on the road, they're the defending NFC champions, they've won their division. There's definitely some challenge of playing a little bit uphill, and that's the mindset we're taking into this game."

I wish I had some time off from work and could get Green Bay Packers playoff tickets to the game this Sunday. I think its going to be a high scoring game and the Packers will come out of the desert with a W.

Packers Clinch Playoff Berth

The Packers are one of the hottest teams going into the playoffs and could make a serious run. If the playoffs started today the Packers would face the Arizona Cardinals, which they play this Sunday during the final regular season game. If not the Cardinals the Packers could face the Eagles, Cowboys and even the Vikings, depending on how the last week of the regular season shakes out.“Our goal of winning the world championship is right in front of us,” coach Mike McCarthy said. “And that’s all you can ask for, opportunities. You have to get into the playoffs to accomplish that. We’re going to be a road-warrior mentality as we plan for that. But let’s be honest, we still have work ahead of us.”

Aaron Rodgers and Alex Smith revisited

This Sunday, at Lambeau Field ,the Packers take on the 49ers (who selected Alex Smith over Aaron Rodgers in the 2005 NFL draft). The two will be forever linked together, but both have taken different paths in their short NFL careers. They may look alike but that's where the similarities end. Alex Smith the No. 1 overall pick started right away for a bad 49er team and hurt his shoulder in 2007 and 2008, and has had 5 new offensive coordinators. Meanwhile, it was a blessing in disguise for Rodgers to drop to the No. 24 overall pick to the Packers. Rodgers rode the bench for his first 3 seasons behind Brett Favre but now is the future of the Green Bay Packers. Who knows what would have happened if the roles would have been reversed! “It still hurt when my name wasn’t called first, but it also hurt second, third, fourth all the way down to 23,” Rodgers said. “But I got here and was excited about it. The rest was history.
“It was difficult to go through that one day in April, but I think it’s made all the difference now.” The real kicker here is Mike McCarthy, the Packers head coach now, was the offensive coordinator for the 49ers at that time and played a part of the decision to take Alex Smith over Aaron Rodgers.
Also, I have some buddies coming into town Monday on Nov. 23 to check out the Cheech and Chong show at the Radisson Three Clans Ballroom. Defiantly never a dull time with these two in town.
