The Green Bay Packers lost on Sunday night to the New
Orleans Saints 44-23. This loss puts brings the Packers into their bye week and
also means that they are at the halfway point of the season, eight games
down, eight to go. Here is our mid season review.
Team MVP- Aaron Rodgers. Don’t laugh. This was an easy
choice but don’t laugh.
Team MVP not named Aaron Rodgers- Jordy Nelson. Again, this
was an easy choice. Nelson during the early weeks of the season was the only
receiver making big plays down the field. Second on this list would be Randall
Cobb.
Team MVP not named Aaron Rodgers, Jordy Nelson, or Randall
Cobb- Corey Linsley. Corey Linsley was not expecting to be the Packers starting
center in week one, but an injury to J.C. Tretter forced him into the lineup.
Linsley has played so spectacularly that with J.C. Tretter’s expected return
after the bye, Tretter may find himself on the bench, or possibly starting for
the injured T.J. Lang, who may not be ready to go. Second on this list would be
Devonte Adams.
Defensive MVP- Sam Shields- Shields has been exactly what
they paid him to be. He made some big plays in the secondary at crucial times
when the Packers needed them the most. Second on this list would be Julius Peppers.
Rookie of the year not named Corey Linsley- Devonte Adams-
For weeks we were asking for somebody not named Jordy Nelson or Randall Cobb to
step up and start making plays in the passing game. Adams
has come on strong in recent weeks, as expected from 2014 second round draft
choice. Second on this list would be Ha-Ha Clinton Dix.
What we have liked so far- We have liked how the offensive
line has played much better. They have finally come together and benching
Linsley for Tretter may not be a god idea at this point. We have also like the
play of secondary. This is the deepest secondary in the league, and trying to
get a formidable passing game going on this bunch when they are at full
strength is a difficult task.
What we have not liked so far- This team has been very
unpredictable all season. That needs to stop, and now. We have not liked the
play of Eddie Lacy. He needs to get it going, and now. We have not liked the
continued decision to start Leroy Guion over Josh Boyd and Mike Pennel. We believe
one of those two would be a better option.
What we would like to see- We would like to see the same
team show up two weeks in a row. Right now, we have no idea how this team is
going to perform on a week to week basis, they need to get some consistently.
