Last Thursday, the Packers went on the road to Seattle for what was
considered to be their toughest game of the entire season and came away with a
36-16 loss in which mental errors ruled the day. Take that tape and throw it
out, not much to see there. Now it is time to move on to their next opponent,
the New York
Jets. Here is what we will be watching on Sunday at Lambeau Field.
Will Eddie Lacy play? Lacy suffered a concussion week one,
which is already the second of his young NFL career. Remember last season he
suffered a concussion, then came back and run for 1100 yards, winning offensive
rookie of the year honors. Mike McCarthy has said Lacy cleared the first step
of the concussion tests, so that is a good sign. If he can’t play, James Starks
will get the nod to start. Starks can do fine in a sport start, so I wouldn’t
worry much there. Also expect to see Dejaun Harris some, even if Lacy does
play. We are beginning to think the Packers goal was to get out of Seattle alive, which is
why we didn’t see much from them.
Can Devonte Adams and/or Jarrett Boykin step it up? The
third and fourth receiver positions on this team have been very important the
last few years in the Mike McCarthy version of the West Coast spread. However
Boykin and Adams were non-factors in week one. We expect that to change in week
two. Look for one or both to play a pivotal role this week.
Can Derek Sherrod play as well as he did in the preseason?
Brian Bulaga tore his MCL in week one
against Seattle ,
possibly putting his NFL career in doubt. In steps Derek Sherrod, who has had
injury problems himself but is healthy for the first time in his career.
Sherrod play very well in the preseason, and looked decent being thrust into
action against the Seahawks.
Will Leroy Guion start at nose tackle again? B.J. Raji
suffered a season ending injury during the preseason, which left the nose
tackle position wide open. Guion got the start possibly due to experience, but
he was simply overmatched. We believe Mike Pennel or Josh Boyd should be the
starter. Also look for the possibility of either Johnny Jolly or Ryan Pickett
being brought back. Both are free agents right now although Jolly would need
medical clearance.
We expect the Packers to win this game no matter who plays.
Final Score: 31-17 Packers.
