The great Jimmy Buffett will again grace the stage of
Elkhorn's Alpine Valley Music Theater this summer. Joining forces with the
Coral Reefer Band on his 2014 “This One's For You” tour, the timeless performer
will return to the venue for the fourth time in as many years on August 23rd.
His annual shows at Alpine Valley have become one of the theater's most popular
concerts of the summer, always selling-out fast.
The 67 year old Buffett has been playing his own unique
blend of southern folk and country since the early 1970s. Born in Mississippi,
he eventually moved to the beaches of Florida, where he found the easy-going
tropical lifestyle to his liking. Buffett's Caribbean surroundings soon entered
his music, a career that had already seen him release six full-length albums,
none to critical acclaim. It wouldn't be until the release of his seventh
studio album, Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes, which featured
his first hit “Margaritaville”, which Buffett would really come onto the
American folk scene.
Since that release in 1977, Buffett has expanded his
discography to over 25 albums and has gone on tour every year. Eight of his
biggest hits, including “Margaritaville”, are now expected to make up a good
portion of his live shows, routinely referred to as Jimmy Buffet's Big Eight.
Beyond music, Buffet has delved his talents into an array of
outside businesses ventures. Restaurants, casinos, beer, board games, sports,
and even a number of clothing lines are either owned by Buffet or bear some
form his brand. Even the former Madison-based minor league baseball team the
Black Wolfs had ties to Buffet, partly-owned by him along with the Fort Meyers
Miracle.
Buffet has also forayed into other art forms over the years.
He has written three New York Times best sellers since beginning to author in
the 1980s, writing both fiction and non-fiction, and even releasing a pair of
children's books. He has been featured as a cameo in numerous television and
film projects, including South Park, Sesame Street, and Hawaii 5-0.
Buffett is the second announced concert at Alpine Valley
Music Theater for the 2014 summer season. KISS and Def Leppard will open the
venue on August 15th.
