The
announcement comes a week after speculation first began about the possibility
of McCartney returning to the city after an eight-year hiatus. Miller Park and
Live Nation simultaneously issued press releases six days ago announcing a
major concert, though no performer was named.
Prior to
the 2005 show, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee was in the city in 1993
to play at County Stadium. The roofless former-home of the Brewers reached
maximum capacity faster than expected for the performance, despite being one of
the rainiest days in Milwaukee history
Miller Park Roof Might Stay Open For Concert
The
retractable roof on Miller Park provided a great incentive for guaranteed good
weather said event organizers on Monday. They told reporters that if favorable
conditions were expected for the night, the roof would remain open. McCartney’s
Milwaukee performance is the eighth confirmed date for his summer stadium tour,
joining venues in Austin, Boston, Seattle, Orlando, Memphis, Tulsa, and
Washington DC. It is also the second concert planned to take place this summer
at Miller Park, which will host an already sold-out Kenny Chesney “No Shoes
Nation” tour stop on May 18.
